A New Future for ISSA 2nd October 2009

The Annual General Meeting & Council meeting to be held in November will be discussing major changes to the structure of ISSA and we need input from as many members as possible. Ideally, members will be able to attend the meetings but if this is not possible, please email your views

There will be discussions in many areas but the main points will cover

Representation
It is impossible for a single group of Council members to understand the needs of every member, when many regions in the world are not represented on the Council and cannot attend world meetings

Membership & Subscriptions
We need a membership structure which can benefit from both local organisations & world wide representation especially in areas such as recognised accreditation schemes for schools

Looking Forward
We need direction and a focus on where ISSA is to go in the future. The Council have approved a draft Development Plan, produced by the President, which will require a significant amount of work to make it happen

Constitution
Changes in these areas will also require amendments to the Constitution in areas such as membership, subscriptions, voting rights, Council membership etc

If you can help with the changes or would like to comment, please send your email to issa@sailingschools.org

Welcome to New ISSA Member - Turkish Offshore Racing 7th December 2008

The Turkish Offshore Racing  Club was established in 1971 and has become one of the leading yacht racing clubs in Turkey

TORC opened its sailing school in 2008 and has recruited an experienced team of sailing instructors, led by Fatih Ozmen. Instructor qualifications and teaching methods are based around the RYA schemes to provide a wide range of training courses

For more information you can find the Turkish Offshore Racing Club on the Where to Sail pages

Welcome to New ISSA Member - Sailing With Attitude 23rd November 2008

Sailing With Attitude is based in Sydney, Australia and Jonathan Bogais is the school Principal. Jonathan explains why he thinks ISSA will benefit his school.

After ten years of operation at the Fish Market marina where Sailing with Attitude is based, I am in the process of changing the school's format. During this long period, the school has been highly technical in its teachings working with IYT, for which I have been an Yachtmaster Ocean Examiner as well as instructor, this together with representing YA.

However, many of my students have no desire to achieve commercial certifications, but want to enjoy the experience and adventure attached with learning to sail here and continue overseas. Others are families planning serious passages and in need of comprehensive preparation programmes. 70% of my students are from overseas, specially France.

Under the new format I want to return to the style I first introduced before moving into technical teaching. This will also include elements of ecology. Besides, I run regular workshops on topics including navigation and meteorology around Australia and want to develop this aspect further.

For more information you can find Sailing with Attitude on the Where to Sail pages

The following hotels are close to the sailing school

Strandhotel Alte Donau: (Cheap and clean 3*) very close http://www.alte-donau.at

Administrative Council - Vacancies 1st August 2008

There will be vacancies on the Administratitive Council this year as some members will be standing down by rotation.
It is very important that ISSA has a strong and vibrant Council which is representative of its members. In order to reduce the commitment and cost of being a member of the Council, the mid-yearr meeting haqs been dropped, but Council members will be asked to try and attend the majority of AGMs during their period of office. Most of the ISSA business is carried out by email and this is the area where Council members will be expected to make the greatest contribution, along with telephone meetings via Skype, which is a free service.

If you are interested in standing for election (even if you will not be able to attend this year's AGM), please email Ralph with your details.
